The creation of a piece of furniture is an act of creation like any other, which pursues the expression of the creator with a view to satisfying the user’s needs. The issues we face nowadays lead us to take crucial factors into consideration when creating furniture, including: the matter of ascertaining real needs, as well as the materials to be chosen for production and the means necessary for the whole process.
Nowadays, the market provides us with a host of options: wood sourced from sustainable European forests with FSC certification, solid wood, bamboo, steel [composed of various recycled elements], glass [infinitely recyclable], and paint and varnish finishes made with natural oils.
These materials contain zero volatile organic compounds, which means that they will not going to release harmful gases into the environment and the home. The absence of toxic substances is also one of the goals to bear in mind.
Handmade furniture is also more conscious, as manufacturing processes can be clearly identified and are easier to control.
"Creation is a work of art, a vital act, fundamentally no different from any other vital act.” Abel Salazar
To this I would add that creation should be conscious and have deep respect for the environment.
