Chalet à Oka

The boat in the trees

The owners of this chalet are sailing fans and outdoor enthusiasts. That is why they acquired this land in Lac des Deux-Montagnes, Oka (Canada), an area known for its sailing club. The perimeter defined by the flood line and several setbacks helped sculpt the footprint of the building, giving it its particular shape. The house had to be small, but optimised. It is a kind of wooden box protected by a large white roof, which supports an elliptical volume that resembles the shape of a boat. Inside, the master bedroom occupies the bow, offering a panoramic view of the lake and the sunset. The owners have nicknamed the lodge Le bateau dans les arbres (the boat in the trees). Seen from the road opposite, the chalet intrigues passers-by and brings life to the neighbourhood.
