Pierre-Yves Rochon & Lalique

The precision of metal and the sparkle of crystal

Lalique, the French manufacturer of crystal founded by René Lalique in 1888, entered the luxury industry long ago, with its conceptual approach, present in perfumes and jewellery, decorations, fine arts and interior design. Today we look at Lalique’s latest furniture collection, designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon, the Parisian interior designer known for creating timeless pieces and interiors for luxury environments, including the world’s finest hotels. Pierre-Yves Rochon has created Signature, a luxurious collection that writes a new story of the French brand, in which metal magnifies the transparency, purity and sparkle of the crystal.

Pierre-Yves Rochon is a French interior designer born in 1946. He studied at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and Applied Arts in Paris. In 1979, he founded his company for creating interior design solutions for luxury hotels, which earned him the most prestigious awards. Pierre has worked with the most luxurious hotel chains, such as Four Seasons, The Ritz-Carlton, Sofitel Hotels & Resorts, InterContinental, etc. He also designed restaurant interiors, at the request of renowned chefs, such as Joël Robuchon, Alain Ducasse and Paul Bocuse. His exceptional designs catapulted him into the limelight, making him one of the most awarded and sought after designers in the world.

Drawing inspiration from everywhere, especially from his dreams, Pierre has combined Lalique’s timeless and classic designs with his vision of modernity.

As a staunch admirer of the creativity and talent of René Lalique, Pierre accepted this collaborative project, creating the Signature collection. "The Vibration, Causeuses, Coutard, Roses or Soudan pieces came about from the quest for the most beautiful aesthetic effect, the quest for perfect proportions and attention to every detail”, confesses Pierre, adding that, "crystal is a prime material that marvellously serves every art form: from architecture or sculpture to tableware or jewellery. As an interior designer, crystal is an inexhaustible source of inspiration and creativity”. Drawing inspiration from everywhere, especially from his dreams, Pierre has combined Lalique’s timeless and classic designs with his vision of modernity, resulting in luxurious contemporary creations, which, given that they are pieces of furniture, do not forget their function.
Comprising a desk, chairs and tables, the models in the Coutard collection feature clear crystal, bright nickel and white glass, with the chairs featuring crystal detailing available in silk and bronze, leather and wood, or leather and bright nickel. As for Causeuses, this is a vanity in crystal, bright nickel and marble. For its part, Vibration is a dresser in crystal with gold leaf, bronze and marble, with interior in blackened pear wood covered with black leather. These and other pieces are numbered and signed by Pierre-Yves Rochon.
The lines, one moment angular, the next fluid, inspired by the human form or by fauna, but primarily by dreams, are harmonious and complete, with subtlety and excellence, the preciousness of their materials. Masterful in its execution, Signature channels the essence of the French house. Pierre-Yves Rochon thus perpetuates the talent and work of René Lalique.
