The Courtyard Residence

An interplay of symmetries

The Courtyard Residence, a minimalist house located in Melbourne, Australia, presents itself with calm expressions and perfect functions. As a form of prismatic delight, FGR Architects designed a residence inspired by geometry and natural light, which fills all spaces where glass takes over the walls. We are talking about a mysterious looking project, composed of geometrically perfect rectangular layers. Warmth blossoms from the sun’s rays that pierce through the clear glass, and this is how a cosy, natural ambience is created. Outside, the landscape is urban, but the unique experience that is intended to be provided can be felt inside, with the necessary privacy. Isolated from the outside, the house coexists with light, shadow and reflection, which endow it with elegance.
Gorgeous steel windows and well-chosen woods were two elements that guaranteed the success of the studio’s project. The sliding glass walls allow flexible access to the patio and pool, but in severe weather, the house can be closed down, improving its thermal performance. The surfaces are smooth, contrasting with the varying timbers. The secret was to maintain the design’s simplicity, which presents itself subtle without losing its beauty.
