Outside-EU markets gain ground in the footwear industry

A growing proportion in exports

Growing outside the European borders is not a recent goal for the footwear sector, and the initiatives taken by the industry and its representatives seem to be bearing fruit, with Outside-EU markets gaining a growing proportion in exports. Of the 66 million pairs of shoes (with a total value of 1712 million Euros) exported between January and October 2022, almost 20% were sent to Outside-EU countries, reveals the APICCAPS (Portuguese Association of Footwear, Components, Leather Goods and their Implements) in a statement.
The USA went from importing 19 million Euros worth of national footwear a decade ago to 93 million Euros in the first ten months of 2022. Canada jumped from 10 to 25 million. China went from 2 to 14 million and Australia from 3 to 7 million Euros. In the opposite direction, Angola and Russia posted "very significant drops”, according to APICCAPS.
