The University of Maia stadium (ISMAI) has been recognised in the first edition of the João Álvaro Rocha Municipal Award for Architecture. This award is an initiative of Maia council, organised by the João Álvaro Rocha Pro-Architecture Association. The ISMAI stadium was designed by architects José Carlos Loureiro, José Manuel Loureiro and Luís Pinheiro Loureiro. A family of three generations of architects, who all graduated from the Oporto Faculty of Architecture and the Oporto Superior School of Fine Arts. In the jury’s opinion, the stadium, consisting of a football pitch, athletics track, tennis courts and complementary structures, "rehabilitated the relationship between the campus buildings and the landscape, including the stadium and the horizon marked by the metro line through sensitivity to the topography”.
